Applications are being accepted through April 29 for the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s 2016 Manowai o Hanakahi youth summer program.
The two-week environmental course will take place from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 11-22 with overnight field trips and is open to Hawaii Island middle and high school students. Registration is $250 and need-based scholarships are available.
Participants will learn about Hawaii’s mauka (mountain) and makai (ocean) regions while developing a deeper understanding of the archipelago’s natural history and conservation challenges.
The program also builds confidence while developing skills used in environmental restoration, ecological monitoring and higher education.
